dress code and birthday treats
Here is a quick reminder regarding dress code and birthday treats....
Dress code:
Now that the weather is getting nicer outside, this is a great time for all families to review the parent-student handbook for the dress code expectations (regarding make-up, shoes, hair, uniform bottoms, shirts, belts, etc.). If you need another copy of the handbook, please let one of the ladies in the office now so that you receive one.
Birthday treats:
Birthday treats are discouraged and PSCA does not permit birthday treats to be dropped off in the office for delivery to the classroom, in some cases, throughout the year, treats have made their way into a classroom. It is important to all PSCA staff that this expectation is consistently followed across the building moving forward.
- Because birthday celebrations are a special time for scholars to be recognized for turning a year older, we are asking that parents encourage their scholar to donate a book to the classroom or school library (per our parent-student handbook). Birthday treats are difficult for scholars who cannot enjoy the treat with the rest of the class due to allergies or religious reasons. If you would like to have your scholar bring something to share with the class to celebrate his or her birthday, please limit it to an individually wrapped, non-food item, or bag of items, such as pencils, pens, bookmarks, small games, bracelets, or other party-favor type items.
While there are several reasons for sending this message at this point in the year, the most significant reason is due to the number of severe food-related allergies and dietary restrictions in our building. Older students who have allergy or religious dietary restrictions can usually manage without too much difficulty or adult help; however, most of our scholars have a very hard time understanding why they are not allowed to eat a birthday treat and it can become a significant disruption during the academic day.
